Welcome to The Bothy
The Bothy is a unique and cosy stone Shepherd’s Hut, over 200 years old, and one of only a handful left in Northumberland. It is the perfect hideaway to explore this extraordinary county. The characterful and comfortable Shepherd’s hut consists of a King-size bedroom with wooden beams, and an en-suite shower & toilet. There is a small breakfast station where we provide a kettle, toaster, coffee machine, small fridge and microwave, along with all the dishes and cutlery needed. Breakfast table and chairs are located by the picture window so that you can enjoy your breakfast while taking in the beautiful views down the valley, and the passing wildlife.”
The Bothy is advertised solely on a Bed & Continental Breakfast basis, as it has no kitchen facilities and therefore self-catering is not possible. However, if you wish, you can purchase take-away or pre-cooked food from one of our local supermarkets, which can be heated in the microwave to enjoy at the Bothy. We are also surrounded by an abundance of excellent local restaurants, pubs/bistros etc.
Dark Sky Nights – For those who enjoy star gazing, Northumberland is the place to be – with little light pollution, the clear night skies are magical and the Bothy is located in the heart of some of the best Dark Sky Night skies where you can view the Plough, Orion’s Belt or the Milky Way up close and personal from one of our onsite telescopes.
Fishing – “No matter what kind of fishing inspires you, from steams to rivers and coasts, The Bothy and Little Ivy are surrounded by, and within a reasonable distance of, some of the best fishing in the County. We can put you in touch with our local fishing guide, who will advise you on every aspect, to ensure you get the best experience possible”
Horse Riding – we have a number of stables close by, which we are happy to recommend.
Other Activities – If cycling, canoeing, kayaking, paddle boarding is your passion, we can point you in the right direction to book your preferred activity.

Breakfast
Continental breakfast – a choice of cereal, fresh fruit, assorted breads, pastries, a plate of cheese & ham, yogurt, along with orange juice, a selection of condiments, butter etc. and a selection of Teas, Coffee, Hot Chocolate and fresh milk will be available in the Bothy on arrival, for the duration of your stay. (If advised in advance we can cater for most food allergies, coeliac/Gluten Free, Lactose intolerant etc.)
